A breathtaking program

Once again this year, the Esplanade, an open area with an overhead cover located in front of Hall6, will be the scene of a full programme of original and breathtakingly spectacular events.

A new world record for the Guinness Book of Records

Last year, Stephane Riesen, instructor at the TCS driving centre at Platin in Geneva, left his audience gasping with his most unconventional driving – on the two side wheels of his car! This year he will go one step further by driving continually on two wheels, but this time fully exposed in a BMW 328 convertible. In addition, he will take on a further challenge: to beat the record for driving on two wheels as slowly as possible, which means he will keep his car on two wheels until it has nearly stopped! Will he succeed?

That will be for you to see and to offer your encouragement!

A pursuit race by the Drift team

They will be sliding all over the ground: cars, quads, and the famous Fuel Girls Buggy will leave their tire marks all around the track. Fortunately, the “Cops” will be there to maintain order. Will their Impala be fast enough to catch them? Another unique spectacle to savour!

The American « Burns »: The smell of burning rubber!

The Burner Kings are returning. They will be back with their white Chevy Impala to fire up their tires for all to enjoy. These professional showmen have prepared their US cars especially for the Burn, an exercise consisting of holding the front wheels with the brakes while giving the rear wheels as much power as possible to create maximum tyre smoke! The thicker the smoke is, the greater the spectacle! « American Burns » are guaranteed to enflame the crowd with their artistry and driving skills!

Drag Racing with VW Beetles

Drag Racing is a discipline which consists of taking the least time possible to cover the distance of ¼ mile (402 meters) or sometimes 1/8th of a mile (210 meters) is used. Two competitors line up side-by-side for each run. The losers are eliminated while the winners will progress through successive races until the last one who wins his race is declared the overall winner. Sometimes the competitors participate in qualification runs where only their times are taken into account for the competition.

Experienced racers at the wheels of their VW Beetle will help you to discover and enjoy this discipline. And when we speak of the VW Spirit, we mean that only period-style performance preparation is allowed. But of course, these Beetles are also equipped with the latest mandatory safety equipment.

At the STS, each pair of competitors will start side-by-side, each one in a different lane. They start with a “burnout” to heat up their rear tires, and then skid to a stop. This leaves a patch of rubber on the track to help their rear tires to get maximum grip when they start. The start will be given in the traditional style, where a pin-up, standing between the two cars, will wave a flag to send them off. www.autobahn.be
